 Medicare covers approximately 40 million people in the United
States. The benefits cover a variety of items. Part A which is what
a person who is 65 will automatically be enrolled in under certain
conditions and it covers hospital expenses. Medicare Part A is
called hospital insurance and is for people have worked for ten
years for an employer who has taken out payroll deductions for
Medicare and Social Security plus a few additional
stipulations.
Medicare Part B is called medical insurance and it is paid for
out of your social security benefit check. It is an option that you
have to get your own Medicare approved insurer but if you don’t
choose it at the time you turn 65 and choose to get it later you

Medicare Part A is for inpatient care in hospitals such as
critical access hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and
long-term care hospitals. It also covers inpatient care on a
temporary basis in a skilled nursing care center. It covers some
hospice services but not all of them and often they are when the
patient is nearing the end of their life. It also covers some of
the blood you may need if the hospital has to purchase the blood
they use in you.
Medicare covers some home health services but for a finite
definition you would have to find out from Medicare or the
insurance coverage exactly what this entails. It may also cover
some inpatient care in a religious nonmedical health institution.
